Job description

Job Title: Teacher- ECE

Department: Early Childhood Education

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Full-Time

Reports To: Manager- Early Childhood Education

Supervises: None

Position Description

The ECE Teacher position is responsible for the daily health, safety, supervision and curriculum instruction of children enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. This position coordinates and implements all daily activities designed to increase the social and cognitive abilities of children enrolled in the program. Teachers will regularly assess student progress toward meeting developmental milestones, and identify appropriate strategies for improving student achievement.

Essential Functions: · Plan and coordinate age appropriate activities for children necessary to produce positive learning outcomes

· Present learning materials in an engaging manner that stimulates the furthering of child development

· Prepare educational materials required to effectively implement early childhood curriculum

· Review all regulatory program standards and guidelines to ensure program compliance

· Maintain safe and nurturing classroom environment conducive to appropriate child development

· Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior(s)

· Communicate regularly the developmental needs of enrolled children to parents, as well as instructional development plan for each child

· Attend required training and professional development opportunities

· Supervise group field trips as assigned

· Additional duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities: · Provide classroom coverage for absent staff to implement classroom activities

· Administer first aid to children requiring immediate medical attention

· Assists other ECE teachers and staff for the purpose of supporting completion of department goals

· Able to support through word and action the Wesley Community Center’s Mission statement and the mission’s core values of integrity, excellence and commitment through completion of other duties as needed and assigned

Must be highly knowledgeable of best practices in Early Childhood Education child development theory; possess ability to write and speak clearly and informatively, as well as to work with diverse populations; ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior and/or changes; must be able to communicate important messages and learning themes to children and parents; Knowledge of minimum standards of care and Education for developmental needs of children; Bilingual, Spanish-speaking preferred; Customer service oriented and able to effectively manage difficult or emotional client situations; Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; While in this position, the employee is expected to seek to understand, communicate appropriately and effectively, build a positive, professional rapport with all clients and staff.

Education & Experience

High Diploma or GED required. Highly preferred is Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or an Associates’ degree (A.A. or A.S.), Experience preferred working with Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development programs.

Work/Physical Requirements

This position requires the employee to work constructively and cooperatively in a team environment. Employee(s) in this position will work primarily in a classroom setting where they will interact with children and other teachers to address child development needs; this will require the employee to use active listening skills, while also occasionally having to stand and walk to complete job duties; Must be able to lift and carry at least (25) pounds unassisted; teachers may be required to move classroom equipment; teachers may also need to assist in physically moving child(ren) from one area to another. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, with primary hours of operation being 7:15 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; employee may be required to work weekends in support of program services and special events.
