Course: EDUC 604: Family, Child, and Teacher Interaction in Diverse and Inclusive Educational Settings (2 credits)

Course Description

In this course, participants will explore the teacher’s and larger school’s role in constructing caring, collaborative and reciprocal relationships with children and families. Participants will critically examine their own experiences, identities, and assumptions as they develop skills and dispositions to work with a broad range of families and communities. The course will support participants in developing their skills in communication, advocacy and collaboration as they learn to partner with families to support children’s positive identity development along with their social, emotional, language and learning abilities and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver course content and materials aligned with the program curriculum.
  • Grade and evaluate student performance in a timely manner, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain open communication with students, including scheduled office hours or availability for consultation.
  • Submit final grades and required course documentation (e.g., attendance records) by institutional deadlines.
  • Collaborate with program faculty on course coordination and attend relevant program meetings, if necessary.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field required, Teaching certification preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience teaching children from a diverse range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Experience in public schools and with special education
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, preferred
