The School Nurse is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive school health program to promote student wellness. Key duties include managing individual health care plans, conducting screenings, and coordinating medical services in compliance with state laws.
Candidates must hold a valid, unencumbered Louisiana RN license and be registered to practice nursing in the state. A minimum of two years of full-time experience as a registered nurse and experience with Medicaid billing are required.

The school nurse will be active in creating and building upon the school health program. Position duties will include both delivery and coordination of health services. The School Nurse utilizes the ANA Nursing Process to promote and improve student health. He/she will implement and coordinate a school health program in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional nurse care and practice, district/state board of education policies and procedures and Louisiana State law regarding nursing with deference to the Nurse Practice Act. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Coordinate, develop and administer a school health program · Utilize the nursing process components of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to care for ill children during the school day · Coordinate and implement procedures on campus in conjunction with the NOLA Public Schools Nursing/Health Services Coordinator · Make referrals and maintain up to date contact information for primary, urgent and emergent medical and dental care service providers as needed · Create and maintain individual health care plans each school year for students with medical concerns (e.g., asthma, seizure disorder, diabetes, etc.) · Create and update Medical 504 Plans for students with health concerns that require classroom accommodations · Coordinate/conduct annual Vision Screening · Coordinate/conduct annual Hearing Screening · Follow-up rescreenings for vision or hearing screening failures · Meet as a member of IEP/MTSS/504 teams, gather information, and give input for intervention strategies · Maintain a Medication Administration Folder with valid physician orders for specialized care of individual students including, but not limited to special medical procedures during school hours (e.g., gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy care, blood glucose monitoring, and catheterization) as well as administration of medication · Maintain individual student health folders, separate from academic folders. Each student will have an up to date Louisiana Department of Education health history form completed annually by a parent or legal guardian · Valid medical order interpretation for non-licensed state certified staff members · Ensure students have met minimum immunization requirements for school entry · Update and capture student immunization records list for annual reports in LINKS state database · Health enrichment classes · Coordinate an educational program of courses for middle school students that address puberty, body changes, and healthy living practices · Establish an accident/injury prevention program to facilitate school safety · Establish a communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and state public health agencies

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, and one needs to be able to read, analyze, and interpret data (emails, memos, letters, etc.) and maintain visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time. Ability to meet the physical demands of classroom teaching (standing, circulating, occasional lifting/moving of classroom materials); Able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. Ability to safely lift and move up to 30 lbs independently Duties may require traveling to other school facilities using employee's personal transportation. This is a full-time, 100% on-site position; Regular work hours, Monday through Friday, will be established with your supervisor. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
