The Academic Advisor develops and implements a guidance program to support students in academic, career, and social-emotional domains. Key duties include coordinating standardized testing, managing college admissions processes, and collaborating with faculty to maintain academic schedules.
Candidates must hold a Master's Degree in Counseling and be eligible for Missouri Department of Education Counseling Certification (9-12). A minimum of 3 years of experience in education or school counseling and Virtus Certification are required.

Description The academic advisor fulfills the mission of St. Michael the Archangel by assisting the faculty and administration in the development of a guidance program and counseling students in areas of academic, career, and social/emotional domains. The position reports to and is evaluated by the principal.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school. Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Communicates effectively with students, parents and other professionals Prepares and implements the guidance program for students Coordinates the testing program at SMA including ACT-Pre-ACT, PSAT, HSPT, and ACRE Coordinates off site programming for students attending area technical schools Disseminates information and provides services for students with regards to college planning and admissions Assists students with social and emotional issues in consultation with the school LPC Maintains student records and college counseling database Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits Works in collaboration with the School Information Specialist in developing and implementing an academic schedule Participates as a member of the CARE team for students who have academic and other needs Promotes student participation in programs including Missouri Scholars Academic, Boys and Girls State, Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership, etc. Works in collaboration with athletic director to maintain NCAA Clearinghouse records for student athletes
Master’s Degree in Counseling Hold or be eligible for Missouri Department of Education Counseling Certification, 9-12 3 years’ experience in education or school counseling Virtus Certification in Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph Familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an asset. Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
