Candidates must have the ability to lead youth in athletic activities and a strong knowledge of age-appropriate wellness and nutrition practices. Physical fitness is required to perform duties in a rustic outdoor environment and lift up to 30 pounds.

The Athletics & Wellness Specialist will develop and implement an age-appropriate athletics, health, and overall wellness curriculum designed to educate, engage, and inspire campers to participate in a variety of sports, movement-based activities, and healthy lifestyle practices. The Athletics & Wellness Specialist will guide campers through activities including but not limited to pickleball, gaga, field games, team-building exercises, nutrition education, and wellness-focused recreation while promoting physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, emotional wellbeing, and healthy habits in a fun and inclusive camp environment.
include but are not limited to: Develop and implement an age-appropriate athletics and wellness curriculum Encourage healthy lifestyles through physical activity, teamwork, sportsmanship, movement, healthy eating, and positive wellness habits Facilitate activities including but not limited to pickleball, gaga, field games, cooperative games, fitness challenges, nutrition education, and recreational wellness activities Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes physical, emotional, and social wellbeing for all campers Encourage camper confidence, resilience, teamwork, self-esteem, and positive peer relationships through athletics and group activities Maintain strict safety and wellness procedures set forth by GSNNJ Attend pre-camp training and conduct training to encourage staff participation in athletic and wellness activities Maintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Junior Counselors regarding camper behavior, supervision, and wellbeing Instruct and facilitate groups of up to 20 campers, providing fun, informative, skill-building, and wellness-focused activities Promote healthy hydration, rest breaks, sun safety, and safe physical activity practices throughout the camp day Plan, coordinate, and supervise special programs for Special Interest Day Assist in planning and leading games and campfire programs for all 3 overnights until 9:30 pm Keep a supply of appropriate rainy-day wellness and recreational activity resources available Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of sports and recreational equipment and storage areas Conduct safety orientations for equipment usage and activity procedures Provide resources for unit staff to develop wellness-focused projects, lessons, and activities Maintain files of ideas and directions for athletic and wellness programming Write and submit a seasonal report and evaluation of athletic and wellness program activities Promote high camper and staff morale and contribute to a positive camp culture Document and diligently report any health, safety, or welfare concerns to the Camp Health Supervisor Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights Must be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for overnights not staying overnight for Perform other duties as assigned Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively.
Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers while supporting their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing Ability to teach athletic and recreational skills to campers of all ages and staff in a safe, inclusive, enthusiastic, and wellness-focused manner Ability to encourage healthy habits, teamwork, confidence, and positive sportsmanship Knowledge of age-appropriate physical activity, recreation, and wellness practices Knowledge of age-appropriate nutrition and overall physical health recommendations? Ability to use sound judgment regarding camper safety, health, and wellbeing Ability to create engaging programs that support both physical fitness and positive youth development Knowledge of Girl Scouting, leadership skills, and proven instructional experience Individuals must be in physical condition to perform duties and actively participate in camp activities
Physical Requirements Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds. Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service, and internet.
