Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Classroom Management & Instruction
  • Plan, organize, and implement a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the individual needs of all children in the classroom.
  • Establish a positive classroom environment that supports children’s learning and development while ensuring safety, order, and accessibility.
  • Guide children’s behavior and social development using positive behavior support strategies and culturally responsive practices.
  • 2. Curriculum Planning & Implementation
  • Develop weekly lesson plans that align with Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Standards and incorporate hands-on learning, creative expression, and purposeful play.
  • Use various teaching methods and materials to address different learning styles and support language, literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional skills.
  • Engage in continuous assessment and observation to identify each child’s learning progress, strengths, and areas for development.
  • 3. Child Assessment & Documentation
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to track each child’s growth and development using approved assessment tools.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each child’s progress and provide timely feedback to families and program administrators.
  • Utilize data to adjust instructional strategies and ensure all children are progressing towards school readiness.
  • 4. Child Assessment & Documentation
  • Establish strong, respectful relationships with families and communicate regularly to involve them in their child’s learning and development.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits as required, sharing insights on the child's progress, strengths, and recommendations for learning at home.
  • Partner with community agencies and resources to support family needs and enhance classroom experiences.
  • 5. Professional Development & Collaboration
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to maintain program standards and further enhance teaching skills.
  • Collaborate with Pre-K Counts support staff, such as teaching assistants, special education staff, and program supervisors, to meet each child’s unique needs.
  • Actively contribute to team planning and program improvement activities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and shared responsibility.

Qualifications

1.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field. PA Early Childhood Education Certification (Pre-K to 4) is required.

2.

Experience

At least one year of experience teaching in an early childhood setting, preferably with a focus on Pre-K or preschool-age children.

3.

Skills

o Comprehensive understanding of early childhood development and Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards.

o Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster positive, inclusive environments for young learners.

o Excellent communication skills for engaging with children, families, and colleagues.

o Proficiency with educational technology and assessment tools is a plus.

Additional Requirements

1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

3. CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).

4. Ability to kneel, crouch, bend and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies.

5. Moving fingers and hands in a repetitive manner

6. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating with limited English speaking customers.

8. Adequate vision to perform duties.
