Position Summary

Work as a member of the Sports Medicine staff assisting primarily with the healthcare and performance of men’s basketball student-athletes and one other assigned team. Assist the Chief Medical Officer and Head Athletic Trainer in any aspect of the Sports Medicine Program. Help to reduce the liability of the university. Collaborate with the Director of Basketball Performance and the Men’s Basketball coaching staff.

Job Description

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree required in kinesiology, physiology, exercise science, athletic training, physical therapy or related fields of study, OR experience and education that qualifies for licensure. Several years of experience working with athletes in a collegiate, professional and/or clinical sports medicine setting. Experience in the use of current manual therapy, modality and rehabilitation techniques. Computer skills and experience utilizing an electronic medical records system. Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and the Healthcare Provider certification. BOC (Board of Certification) Certified.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in Division I Basketball. Education and training in any of the following techniques: Massage Therapy Active Release Therapy Positional Release Therapy Functional Range Conditioning Dry Needling Graston or another IASTM certification

Conditions of Employment

Hours are dictated by athletic schedule, which will require additional hours beyond the typical work week; will be necessary to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Team travel responsibilities throughout entire year with overnight, weekday and weekend travel. Valid driver’s license. Must meet the physical requirements of the position and must be able to drive a van. Will be exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens and must follow OSHA guidelines. Will be exposed to a range of inside and outside environmental conditions. This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding and restricted term. Essential Designation: Yes Job Duties: 80% - Health Care: Direct and coordinate the health care for Men's Basketball student-athletes and sports assigned by the Dir. of Medical Services. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team which focuses on the wellness and performance of student-athletes. Regular communication and collaboration with coaches, athletic performance staff, sports psychology, medical and allied healthcare providers and other multidisciplinary team members. Collaborate with the athletic performance staff, sports psychology staff and sport coaching staff in developing reconditioning, performance and wellness programming. Provide a high standard of care for all student-athletes while following sports medicine best practices and NCAA guidelines. Foster a positive environment for student-athletes and the staff in the sports medicine facility to optimize health, wellness and performance. On a daily basis, work to increase operational efficiency while maximizing resources of the athletic training program. 10% - Educational Programming: Assist with CPR and Adult or Professional Rescuer certification courses for the athletic staff, students and coaches. Maintenance of sports medicine library in athletic training room: Ensure all books, tapes and journals are stored and maintained in a proper and orderly manner. Distribute appropriate reading articles and materials to coaches. Develop appropriate resource articles concerning various injuries, the treatment and rehabilitation of those injuries. 10% - Administrative Duties as Assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine: Direct the recruitment and assist with the retention of undergraduate athletic training aides: Maintain individual personal files on every athletic training aide. Maintain personal information on every athletic training aide on the computer. Meet with every athletic training aide at the beginning of each semester to discuss the student’s goals, academics and their schedule. IT: Support and assist in coordinating all efforts to improve and update computer and technology use within the athletic training program. Liaison to campus Information Technology and Communications Offices. Work with IT to interface Workday and Presagia to decrease data entry. Liaison to Presagia. Work with our electronic medical records company to coordinate upgrades, submit problems and create forms/documents as needed. Website and social media: Maintain the Sports Medicine website as well as the division Facebook and other social media accounts. Alumni Relations/Fundraising: Assist with Sports Medicine Outreach Programs. Assist with alumni relations and fundraising activities for Sports Medicine regarding the athletic training programs. Maintain the Exposure Control Plan for the Division of Sports Medicine. Conduct OSHA training annually for all athletic training staff and athletic training aides. Coordinate and oversee CPR/First Aid training for the coaches and athletic training staff. Maintain all AEDs, completing monthly service checks of the AEDs. Facilities management for Mackesy Sports Complex athletic training facility. Develop and direct a schedule for routine maintenance for all rehabilitation and exercise equipment and therapeutic modalities. Develop innovative additions, renovations and suggestions to make the athletic training facilities more efficient, safe and attractive. Work to reduce expenditures, operational expenses and medical costs. Assure that the athletic training facilities at Mackesy are clean, safe and secure. Schedule all cleaning and maintenance. Maintain the vehicles used by Sports Medicine: Coordinate all repairs, routine maintenance and filling with gas. Complete all van use requests in a timely manner. Educate all staff and students on proper accident reporting procedures and vehicle use restrictions. Medical Clearance Process: Design and direct the process by which incoming and returning student-athletes are cleared for participation. Coordinate with the Insurance and Records Coordinator the documentation of clearance and completion of all follow up evaluations. Medical Records: Review medical transcriptions for accuracy. Coordinate the review of all medical documentation with physicians and staff. Review scanned material to ensure that all materials are scanned into the electronic medical records system correctly.
