  • Functions: This is an Exempt position. Counselor utilizes leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic and personal/social development of all students.

  • Qualifications:
  • Education and
  • Training: Requires a Master's Degree Requires certification in school counseling or a closely related field (MSW, MHP, etc.) Requires valid Washington State Drivers license Requires proof of degree/transcripts, certifications, and THREE written letters of reference along with application.

  • Abilities: Requires strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality standards due to the high amount of records, materials, and communications concerning students, or other areas that may impact the operation of the program. Requires ability to build partnerships with parents, guardians, social workers, and case managers to ensure student's best progress on a regular basis. Requires the ability to provide education, awareness, and prevention services to students, faculty, and staff to include anti-bullying, harassment, anger and stress management, self esteem, grief, risky behaviors, depression, anxiety, all forms of abuse, drug, and alcohol prevention and treatment. Ability to plan, organize and deliver a comprehensive school guidance and counseling program.

  • Knowledge in the following topics: child abuse, attendance problems, family issues, substance abuse , suicide prevention and intervention, behavior problems, peer problems, pregnancy, self-esteem issues, and anger management problems. Ability to provide developmentally appropriate direct instruction in a variety of settings for students K-5 Ability to provide structure or leadership in shaping student recess to be an opportunity for kids to demonstrate prosocial behaviors. When needed, be able to provide instruction or intervention in this setting. Ability to guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational plans: collaborate with staff regarding educational and behavioral needs of students K-5 Ability to counsel individuals and small groups of students K-5 toward social and emotional growth; conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in systematic response to identified needs of individual individuals or groups of students. Must participate or lead the building’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program. This will include analyzing or deconstructing problematic behaviors and developing or shaping alternatives using a competing pathways model. In addition, duties will include promoting and instructing the PBIS model on a wide basis.

    • Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing. TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED. If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
