The specialist designs and implements individualized educational and behavioral programs to help students with disabilities reach their full potential. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to coordinate IEPs and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field and a valid CDE License or the willingness to obtain one. A minimum of two years of experience working with students with disabilities and behavioral challenges is required.
The Intervention/IEP Specialist supports students with disabilities by designing and implementing individualized educational, social/emotional, and behavioral programs that enable students to reach their full academic, physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential. This position collaborates closely with special education teachers, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders as part of the educational team. The goal is to ensure that students with disabilities receive appropriate, effective services in the least restrictive environment, promoting their academic success and overall well-being. Key Responsibilities: Support the delivery of special education services within school and community settings. Coordinate the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Develop, manage, and maintain accurate IEP documentation. Collaborate with teachers to develop goals, implement strategies, monitor progress, and plan instructional activities. Participate in student intakes, referrals, eligibility determinations, and placement processes. Coordinate and complete required academic evaluations. Prepare monthly educational reports and maintain comprehensive special education documentation. Ensure that all special education information is accurate and current in Project: Education. Facilitate IEP meetings in accordance with state, federal, and agency regulations. Stay informed of current laws, regulations, procedures, and compliance standards related to special education. Support transition planning, GED preparation, graduation requirements, and post-secondary readiness services. Serve as a substitute teacher when needed. Assist teachers with behavioral accommodations and strategies within the classroom.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred. Hold a valid CDE License as a Special Education generalist, or willingness to enroll in a program to obtain licensure within 60 days of hire. Possess a valid CDE Teaching License or Temporary Educator Eligibility Licensure, as required. Minimum of two years’ experience working with students with disabilities and behavioral challenges. Valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain one with a clean motor vehicle record. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening as a condition of employment, in accordance with Colorado Department of Human Services regulations for childcare facilities. This screening includes initial and ongoing state criminal background checks, fingerprinting, sex offender registry searches, and abuse and neglect clearances. If the employee has lived in any other state within the past five years, equivalent background and abuse/neglect checks from those states will also be conducted. In addition, employees are required to complete a health evaluation or physical examination prior to beginning service to confirm fitness for duty, and annually thereafter.
