STATUS: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY The Elementary Teacher at Denver Christian School is responsible for cultivating a Christ-centered, academically excellent, and nurturing learning environment for students. This role integrates biblical truth into all areas of instruction, supports the whole-child philosophy of education including support of each student’s growth in cognitive, spiritual, social, creative, personal and physical areas of learning. Elementary teachers partner closely with families and colleagues to support student success.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES: Library Teaching Role PreK-5 Plan engaging and age-appropriate read aloud times to introduce and expose students to new literature, different genres, and authors. Follow curriculum guidelines/map for planning for classes’ weekly Library time. Introduce and model reading comprehension strategies with students.
Teach age appropriate library skills: book care, using shelf markers, finding books on shelf, library organization, using the library catalog to locate resources on their own. Match readers with appropriate reading material that reflects their interests and reading level. Provide centers and book response opportunities for students. Work with teachers to provide books they need for their classroom projects. Work collaboratively with teachers to teach students research skills. Library Administrative Role Recruit, train, and direct volunteers to help with the day to day maintenance of the library such as shelving, book projects, covering books and repairing damaged materials, assisting students with check out and locating books. Maintain and build a relevant and engaging library collection that meets the interests and learning needs of all readers, as well as supplements and enhances the curriculum. Maintain accurate library records by managing overdue lists, collecting fines, and replacing missing or damaged books. Review published book lists, award lists, and book reviews to remain aware of new and relevant materials that will enhance learning of students and teachers. Conscientiously manage library funds to best serve the needs of students and teachers.
Plan and carry out book fairs (i:55 Book Fair). Ed Tech Role Help set up and manage online student learning programs at the elementary level. Support the administration with management of the school’s LMS (FACTS). Collaboratively work with teachers on best practices of technology integration at the elementary level. Work with the Elementary STEM teacher to ensure elementary students are growing in their typing skills (1st-5th grade) and with 5th Grade ThunderNews. Faith & Community Model Christ-like character in speech, actions, and relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Participate in chapel, prayer, devotions, and other spiritual life activities of the school. Elementary Specials teachers lead one chapel per year. Participate in community activities that support the vision of Denver Christian School. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and administration to support student learning and school initiatives. Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events. Recess and/or lunchroom duties, as assigned. Uphold school policies, procedures, and the mission, vision, and statement of faith. QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field (strongly preferred). Experience teaching elementary-age students preferred. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Strong written communication and documentation skills High proficiency in (or high ability to learn) Google Workspace and Mandarin, our Library management program. Ability to multitask and show flexibility during our busy days in elementary school Commitment to professional and spiritual growth, and active collaboration with colleagues. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand, walk, and engage actively with students throughout the school day. This includes outside recess duties, and responsibility to lead students quickly to alternate locations during emergency protocols.
