The School Counsellor provides academic and personal support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. They collaborate with staff and families to develop individualized program plans and implement early intervention strategies.
Candidates must hold a valid Nova Scotia teaching license and a Master's degree in Counselling or Counselling Psychology. Proficiency in the CCPA Code of Ethics and experience with the MTSS framework are required.

Position: School Counsellor

The School Counsellor is responsible for providing support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students. Qualifications, Experience, Training:
Valid NS teaching license; Elementary or Secondary Endorsement Master’s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent Counsellors are expected to have reviewed and demonstrated proficiency with the CCPA Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice in their role as a School Counsellor. Understanding of the MTSS Framework and supporting the Tiers of Intervention including the importance of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP); Proven ability to work as a contributing member of Student Planning Teams and Teaching Support Teams; Excellent communication (written, oral, and electronic), problem solving, organization, and interpersonal skills; Promote and maintain confidentiality regarding records and documentation.
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, community members, and outside agencies
Professional development in Counselling Experience as a School Counsellor Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills; Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving and program planning; Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams; Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of culturally responsive pedagogy; Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan; An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development; Ability to apply training and experience to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students; Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques; Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed; Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm; Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviours of concern; Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
