Part-Time Leave and Benefits Administrator: up to 20 Hours per week (10 Months)

Position Summary

The Leave and Benefits Administrator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration of employee benefits, retirement programs, leave management, and related HR functions. This position works collaboratively with benefits brokers, Human Resources leadership, department managers, and external vendors to ensure timely and effective administration of employee benefits and leave programs.

The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for employees by providing accurate information, processing benefit and leave-related documentation, and assisting with the resolution of benefits inquiries. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling Protected Health Information (PHI) and other sensitive Human Resources records.

This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week for 10 months annually. Flexible scheduling may be available. This position may be ideal for experienced HR professionals, benefits specialists, retirees, or individuals seeking part-time employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist new hires and current employees with benefits, retirement plans, FMLA, ADA accommodations, and leave of absence processes.
  • Coordinate benefits administration and open enrollment activities and ensure employees are informed of available benefit programs.
  • Design and produce informational material to explain optional benefits.
  • Distribute benefits enrollment materials and information in advance of enrollment periods.
  • First point of contact for all benefits-related employee questions.
  • Read and review all employee medical documents submitted for errors and request additional information to process paperwork.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, as a team member, and with cross-functional teams.
  • Assist with employee communications, distribution of employee documents, and responding to employee inquiries and issues.
  • Proactively communicate with employees regarding leave requests and return-to-work processes.
  • Ensure file feeds are correct, monitor feeds for errors, and take immediate action for feed errors.
  • Use HRIS software to manage employee benefits, leaves, and absences administration.
  • Monitor employees leave activity and maintain related records.
  • Processes leave requests and related documentation, including Medical Leave, FMLA, Military Leave, Leave Without Pay (LWOP), and Unemployment-related matters.
  • Maintain physical and digital document files for employees’ benefits, and leaves and monitors the time off portal.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of benefits and leave-related onboarding materials, presentations, orientations, and employee communications.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

  • Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Three (3) years of experience in employee benefits, leave administration, human resources, payroll, or a related field required.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet schedules and honor deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, HRIS systems, and comfortable learning new systems as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively with benefits providers and vendors to support benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits, leave administration, and related HR processes.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to research and resolve employee benefit and leave-related questions.

Preferred

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Experience with ADP or similar HRIS/payroll systems preferred.
