Overview
St. Joseph Catholic School, within the Diocese of Venice in Florida, Inc. works diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example teachers support all of the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives.
The counselor will assist the principal with planning and implementation of a school-based guidance program, compatible with the Catholic faith that will meet the needs of students and the school community. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

- Offers Comprehensive school counseling program that meets the needs of students academically, socially/emotionally, and career following the ASCA model.
- Support and supplement the work of classroom teachers with guidance lessons
- Consultation with students, teachers, parents, and administration to ensure student success. ○ Assist students in developing and maintaining normal growth and developmental patterns of behavior and achievement. ○ Work with students having learning or behavioral problems based on social/emotional issues. ○ Give direct assistance to those students having difficulties in the area of learning and adjustment because of social/emotional issues. ○ Work with new students to help them adjust to their new school environment. ○ Identify potential problems to offer assistance early on ○ Assist parents to understand normal growth and development patterns of students and deviations in behavior from normality.
- Make referrals, when necessary, in conjunction with the parents and in consultation with the teachers and principal.
- Provide short term/brief individual or group counseling to students
- Assist in developing academic and/or behavioral plans for students based on their social/emotional needs.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in School Counseling.
- Certification in School Counseling in the State of Florida or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
- Possesses a high degree of knowledge in the field of School Counseling and is able to convey standard concepts, practices, and procedures clearly and accurately.
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral.
- Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
- Proficiency with computer network systems and software programs.
- Undergoing a level II background screening with satisfactory results.
