Position Overview

  • Aide to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a student with communication needs. This role is essential in helping the student access the preschool curriculum, engage with peers, and build communication and social skills in a nurturing classroom environment.

  • Responsibilities: Provide individualized support to a preschool-aged student throughout the school day Assist the student in understanding and following classroom routines and activities Support the development of communication skills using strategies provided by the teaching team and specialists (e.g., visual supports, modeling, assistive communication tools) Facilitate positive peer interactions and social engagement Collaborate closely with the classroom teacher, and service providers (e.g., speech therapists) Monitor and document student progress and behavior as required Assist with transitions, self-care tasks, and classroom participation Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related field preferred Experience working with young children, preferably in a preschool or special education setting Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with diverse learning needs Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to follow direction and implement instructional strategies consistently Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods Ability to assist young children with transitions, communication, and daily activities
