The Academic Coach provides one-on-one and small group support to high school students to ensure success in summer credit recovery classes. Responsibilities include facilitating workshops on socio-emotional skills, tracking academic progress, and mentoring students toward college and career pathways.
Candidates should have at least one year of college or relevant experience, with a bachelor's degree preferred. Required qualifications include the ability to use multiple teaching modalities and a commitment to working with diverse, underserved youth populations.
Academic coach – (Syaep)
Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education
opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. YCD’s philosophy is that every individual should have the right to sustainable and generational economic mobility, aiming to break the cycle of poverty. Each year YCD provides around 1,200 community members with employment and training services through their programs and partnerships. Summer Youth Academic and Employment Program (SYAEP) is a student support program for high school aged youth. SYAEP seeks to provide underserved students with academic support during their summer classes for success. We provide real-time support to students in their credit recovery classes during the summer, as well as provide workshops for participants to further promote skills that will benefit them in school as well as in life.
Summer Youth Academic and Employment (SYAEP) Academic Coach position is a 6-week part time (30 hours per week) non-exempt position. Estimated program dates are June 8, 2026-July 24, 2026. Academic Coaches will be assigned according to student demand, coach availability, and coordination with teachers and the YCD Site Coordinator.
To best mitigate the spread of disease and protect our staff, it is a condition of employment that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Because YCD prioritizes the health and well-being of employees, proof of vaccination will be required upon hire and be kept on file for each employee.
