Join us as a Children’s Grief Counselor, where you’ll provide compassionate support and innovative therapy to help grieving youth find hope and healing. In this role, you’ll help design meaningful programs, lead workshops and camps, and walk alongside families during their journey of loss. This is a grant-funded, fixed-term position lasting two years. The role is 32 hours per week and is eligible for full company benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, short-term disability, and paid time off. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
This is a hybrid position that requires one day per week in the Charlottesville office, with the remaining time spent supporting children and families in Buckingham County. Some evening availability may be required based on patient and program needs.
Assist in evaluating the emotional needs of bereaved youth before and/or after the death of a loved one. Develop and deliver therapy services in accordance with the plan of care at home, schools, or HOP office. Prepares progress notes and maintains records of all contacts with youth, families, and patients. Participate in the hospice quality assurance reviews as requested. Work as a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team by participating in the plan of care for the patients and families who will benefit from therapy intervention. Plan and implement groups, workshops, and camps for bereaved youth and their families. Provide grief education, support, and assistance with public relations for the community. Adhere to the standards of all applicable federal and state laws. Provide timely and complete documentation. Essential Skills for Success Strong knowledge of grief and loss interventions and therapeutic approaches. Ability to accurately document treatment plans and client progress. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for clear communication. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with families, staff, and management. Exceptional customer service skills and a collaborative approach to care. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Master's degree in social work, counseling, expressive therapies, or psychology. 2 years relevant experience required. Hospice experience preferred. Driver’s license, personal automobile and current automobile liability insurance. Typical Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, lift and walk, climb steps in patient homes, office settings and facilities. Communicate by phone, writing, speaking. Lifting to 20 pounds. Drive short/long distances.
