Job description
Our Assistant Teacher is primarily responsible for assisting with student instruction and behavioral supports in the Minnick Schools – a system of private day schools for students with special needs. We are looking for motivated individuals that desire to affect positive change in young people’s lives through daily classroom and community-based instruction.

Minimum education, training, requirements and prerequisites
High School diploma/ GED with minimum of one year’s experience in working with students who receive special education services, mental health and/or other direct services.
Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
Satisfactory Driving Record.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday – 8:00AM-4:00PM.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist teacher with classroom management, academic instruction, and behavioral support.
Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies as directed.
With provided training, obtain Safety Care certification, and implement Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
Maintains student records and assigned documentation in a timely manner.
Maintains confidentiality of student and school personnel information.

Maintains professional boundaries in all interactions with students and staff.
Assists classroom teacher with supervision of students. Provides instruction and supervision of students when the teacher is not present.
Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, IEP meetings as requested.
Attends work regularly and arrives in a timely fashion.
Communicates professionally and conveys dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.
