- Description: The full-time English Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of classroom and/or laboratory experiences which result in learning. Instructors develop, evaluate, and revise the curriculum, incorporating evidence-based learning activities directed at meeting established learning outcomes. Instructors monitor and evaluate student performance based on established grading guidelines. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
- Contribute to the overall achievement of the college’s mission and goals through effective instruction and classroom management. Plan and prepare for assigned instructional courses. Demonstrate strong knowledge of subject content and effective pedagogy. Develop instructional materials and evaluation methods aligned with course and program outcomes. Maintain data supporting student learning and outcomes assessment processes adopted by SEARK College. Create and maintain a learning environment that fosters rapport, respect, and inclusion. Clearly establish and communicate expectations for learning and achievement. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance and student progress. Engage in academic counseling and student advisement. Meet with current and prospective students to review placement scores and provide accurate interpretations. Provide guidance to students for academic planning and success. Refer students to appropriate college resources for additional services or support. Participate in the college community through intra-professional networking and professional development. Provide input into budgeting and institutional decision-making processes as appropriate. Stay current in the field of expertise and incorporate evidence-based practices into instruction. Use varied teaching techniques and integrate current instructional technology. Provide students with timely written and oral feedback on performance. Engage in ongoing self-assessment of teaching effectiveness and professional development needs. Maintain required class schedules, office hours, and effective classroom management as set forth by the College. Oversee laboratory components of courses, including setup and management of lab equipment when required. Perform other duties as assigned.

- Qualifications: Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the subject area Ability to teach in the evening and/or online classes Candidates should demonstrate the ability to successfully maintain a teaching load Two years’ experience teaching students in higher education The successful candidate will possess competence and experience to develop, revise, implement and assess the curriculum to ensure that students are acquiring current knowledge, including familiarity with technology used in classroom settings A shared vision for preparing students for their professional programs and an ability and willingness to use novel teaching techniques and technology to engage today’s learner is essential Candidates for this position must possess a thorough knowledge of the teaching field, a commitment to high academic standards, a dedication to student success, and excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate with experience with instructional design for online courses and demonstrable understanding of asynchronous, pedagogical best practices Experience using Canvas LMS is highly preferable.
