Job Description
POSITION: LIVING WITH PURPOSE GED INSTEUCTOR CLASSIFICATION CODE: EXEMPT FULL TIME DEPARTMENT: LIVING WITH PURPOSE REPORTS TO: LIVING WITH PURPOSE PROGRAM MANAGER STATEMENT OF JOB: The GED instructor is responsible for delivering structured instruction to participants seeking their General Educational Development (GED) credential. This role supports participants in building foundational academic skills while promoting consistency, accountability, and confidence. The GED instructor plays a key role in aligning education services with ABHS program goals, including the Living with Purpose (LWP) program, by supporting participant progress, documenting outcomes, and maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruction and Facilitation
- Deliver daily GED instruction in subjects including Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies
- Develop and implement structured lesson plans aligned with GED testing standards
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet varying learning levels and needs
- Maintain an engaging, respectful, and supportive classroom environment
- Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
- Integrate competencies, goals and objectives in lesson plans
- Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
- Work with Program Manager to ensure program objectives are met.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for learning activities.
- Assess students' readiness to take exams.
- Help students prepare and study for GED exams.
- Develop professional relationships with other programs, departments, and community stakeholders.
- Build rapport with participants while maintaining professional boundaries
- Monitor participant progress and provide individualized support
- Encourage consistency, attendance, and goal setting
- Identify barriers to learning and communicate concern appropriately
- Support participants in developing soft skills such as communication, time management, and accountability, as it relates to program participation
- Reinforce workplace readiness behaviors aligned with LWP expectations
- Collaborate with Career Coaches to support participant engagement and progress, while maintaining primary responsibility for academic instruction
- Identify participant barriers and communicate with appropriate staff for support and referrals
- Other Duties as assigned. Documentation & Reporting
- Track attendance daily and ensure accuracy in reporting systems
- Document participant progress, session outcomes, and educational milestones
- Maintain up to date records in computer management maintenance system (CMMS)
- Submit reports in a timely and consistent manner Program Alignment & Collaboration
- Align instructions with ABHS program structure and expectations
- Collaborate with LWP staff, case managers, leadership, and outside stakeholders
- Participate in team meetings and contribute professionally
- Support referrals and intake processes as needed
- Provide instructional support across multiple LWP/GED sites as needed, including travel to assist participants and deliver instruction
- Work in coordination with Career Coaches to align educational progress with participant employment and personal development goals Classroom Structure & Accountability
- Maintain a consistent daily schedule, including breaks and instructional blocks
- Enforce program expectations and classroom guidelines
