Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five state region.

General Summary

The Remediation Tutor provides academic support to students enrolled in the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Master of Medical Sciences (MMS) programs who are participating in course remediation or experiencing academic difficulty. Tutors assist students in strengthening foundational knowledge, improving study strategies, and developing independent learning skills within a supportive and professional learning environment. This position promotes academic success while upholding university standards of professionalism, inclusivity, confidentiality, and academic integrity.

Essential Job Functions

· Facilitate individual and/or small-group remediation tutoring sessions in assigned subject areas. · Assist students with reviewing course concepts, applying knowledge, and developing effective study strategies. · Encourage active participation, critical thinking, and independent learning during tutoring sessions. · Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate tutor-student boundaries. · Document tutoring sessions and communicate relevant concerns to the Learning Skills Specialist as appropriate. · Participate in tutor training sessions, meetings, and professional development activities. · Foster a respectful, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment. · Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.

Requirements

Experience

  • Required: Less than 1 year
  • Preferred: Prior tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience
