BARRY ROBINSON CENTER - NORFOLK, VA 23502If you are passionate about educating future generations and want to have a rewarding role that gives back to our military community, apply to be a High School English Teacher at The Barry Robinson Center! As our high School English Teacher, you would be responsible for developing and delivering engaging English Language Arts curriculum for our residents. The residents at The Barry Robinson Center are all military connected youth that are working through mental and behavioral health diagnosis. Our residents typically stay with us for a period of six to nine months; therefore, we offer year-round school curriculum to meet their educational needs. Our class sizes typically range between 6-8 students, and each classroom has a Teacher Assistant to support the functions and daily operations. As a member of our education team, everyone contributes to meeting the needs of each child academically, behaviorally, socially and emotionally. In addition to fostering a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking, we believe that to fit into our culture, you must exude three qualities of competency, kindness and the desire to have fun!

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education or related field required Must be eligible for Virginia State Licensure with endorsement in one or more academic area(s) Ability to work on-site (Education Building on campus) Previous experience working with adolescents and developmentally disabled youth preferred Responsibilities: Utilize informal and formal assessment measure upon entry into the program (teacher observation, survey, standardized tests, and previous student records) Develop and implement lesson plans the align with licensing standards, to include techniques and strategies such as one-on-one, small groups, classroom lectures, test, quizzes, and homework. Teach and assess English Language Arts content, including grammar, vocabulary, writing, literature, and reading comprehension Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with emotional, behavioral, and reading comprehension. Ensure proper documentation including students' grades, behavior patterns and attendance.
