Position Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine and the Division of Ambulatory Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College and Nashville General Hospital seeks a qualified Internist to join its faculty. This position includes a faculty appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor in our Clinical Educator Track, with responsibilities related to demonstrating excellence in clinical medicine, teaching, and scholarly activity. Candidates should be focused on high quality patient care, interested in building a robust clinical practice, and have the flexibility to work in various clinical and hospital settings. Previous academic experience is preferred. Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities): Clinical responsibilities will include General Medicine Clinic coverage at Nashville General Hospital. Maintain an outpatient Internal Medicine Clinic where responsibilities would include seeing outpatients at Nashville General Hospital and at outpatient clinics run by Meharry Medical College. Teaching & mentoring responsibilities will include formal and informal teaching activities for medical students, residents and fellows in the pre-clinical and clinical years. Service responsibilities will include serving in medical school and/or hospital committees as determined by the Department Chair and Chief of Medicine for the Department of Internal Medicine. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required: Active, unrestricted medical license Ability to obtain credentialing with the affiliated hospital(s). Demonstrated clinical competence in Internal Medicine with a commitment to patient-centered care. Excellent communication, teamwork, and teaching skills. Excellent clinical judgment and patient communication. Teaching, mentorship, and residency leadership experience. Education and Experience Required: Doctor of Medicine degree with a license to practice in Tennessee required. Successful completion of an ACGME approved Internal Medicine training program required. Current ABIM certification in Internal Medicine is required if more than 3 years from completion of Internal Medicine residency training. Three or more years of experience in teaching medical students / residents preferred. Education and Experience Preferred: Experience in academic or teaching settings is a plus, especially involving residents, fellows, or students.
