  • Program: The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is an Early Head Start and Head Start program that services children, ages birth to 5 years of age, and their families. Our program supports school readiness by focusing on health, mental health, nutrition, family engagement and social/emotional development. All of our Early Childhood Education services are free to eligible families.
  • Role
  • Summary: The Health Educator supports in the overseeing of medical conditions, medical administrations, and health-related accommodations. This position will review health documentation to make determinations regarding health status of children and provide health-related education to parents and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interviews families to obtain health histories and sets up and maintains health files, Communicates with medical and dental providers to obtain Well-Child Examinations, Dental Examinations, and follow-ups for medical conditions, medication administration, and other health related concerns. Travel to all site centers to conduct classroom observations, file reviews, and data entry into Child Plus; maintain accurate records and inventory of health supplies. Provide Health psychoeducation to parents and education staff as well as support in the implementation of strategies to best individualize services and address health related concerns (medication administration, child accommodations, etc.) Assist in developing health policies and procedures and educating staff about these policies and procedures, aligned with the Head Start Act and Performance Standards, State and Federal mandates and LACOE GIMS. Facilitate health trainings to parents, new hires, and early childhood education staff.
