Instructor of Christian Studies

Undergraduate Program | College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Christian Studies

Position Type

Position Overview

Shorter University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Christian Studies invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate psychology courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution’s mission.

  • Primary Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate ministry and/or biblical studies courses such as:
  • Intro to Old Testament or New Testament
  • Ministry courses (e.g., Evangelism, Christian Education)
  • Biblical Studies courses (e.g., Hermeneutics, Theology)
  • Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations
  • Use student-centered, evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)
  • Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines.
  • Institutional & Professional Responsibilities
  • Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested.
  • Adhere to institutional policies (e.g., FERPA) and academic integrity standards.
  • Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria

  • Doctoral degree in Ministry or Biblical Studies or related field, or
  • Master’s degree in Ministry or Biblical Studies, or
  • Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Ministry or Biblical Studies.

Additional requirements

  • Agreement with Shorter University’s Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith.
  • Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses (face-to-face and/or online)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas)
  • Commitment to engaging, and ethical teaching practices
  • Work Environment
  • Courses may be delivered in face-to-face or online formats.
  • Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment.
  • Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality.
