Job Description
The Problem Solving Specialist (PSR) supports the school community by addressing student behavioral, social-emotional, and conflict-related concerns. The PSR works collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to promote a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment while helping students develop appropriate problem-solving and coping skills. Duties & Responsibilities
Provide behavioral and social-emotional support to students throughout the school day Assist students in resolving conflicts using restorative and problem-solving practices Respond to student behavioral incidents and help de-escalate situations Build positive relationships with students to encourage accountability and growth Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff regarding student needs Monitor student behavior in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other school settings Conduct student check-ins and provide mentorship and guidance Support implementation of behavior intervention plans and school discipline procedures Document behavioral incidents, interventions, and student progress accurately and timely Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student concerns and progress when appropriate Assist in developing strategies to improve attendance, engagement, and student success Promote a positive school culture and reinforce school expectations Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policies and regulations Support crisis intervention and student safety procedures as needed Skills & Qualifications Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations Knowledge of restorative practices, behavior management, and trauma-informed approaches preferred Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school support team High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or youth-centered setting preferred QualificationsSkills & Qualifications Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations Knowledge of restorative practices, behavior management, and trauma-informed approaches preferred Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school support team High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or youth-centered setting preferred
