Job Description
The 6-12 Full-Time/Benefitted Daily Substitute Teacher position is responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments for grades 6-12 in the absence of the regular teacher. This position functions as a full-time substitute teacher for the school year. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday: 7:45 am – 4:15 pm.
Current professional certification is not required to serve as a 6-12 Full-Time/Benefitted Daily Substitute Teacher, however, candidates with credentialing are preferred. 6-12 Full-Time/Benefitted Daily Substitute Teachers are expected to commit to this role for the academic year that they are appointed, with the possibility to extend the employment period by mutual agreement.
Requirements
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or in consultation with the Head of Integrative Programs, if a lesson plan is not provided Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the School; Organize students for effective instruction Maintains discipline and classroom control to foster a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff, in accordance with School policies. Contribute to student learning, growth, and advancement Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety subject matters quickly, while adhering to School processes and protocols Maintain a positive mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and professional development Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the Head of Integrative Programs as soon as is reasonably possible Leave notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day using “Exit Pass.” Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators Keep records on attendance, accidents, and incidents Ensure the safety of students at all times Facilitate problem-solving Serve as a role model to students Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; teaching credential is preferred Prior classroom teaching experience is required The ability to passionately and effectively guide a broad range of student ages The ability to serve as an advisor and mentor if needed in the Middle School or Upper School A strong and sincere commitment to professional development, both in pedagogy and content area A commitment to a multicultural curriculum and culturally responsive teaching experience is preferred Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills when working with students, parents, faculty, and School leadership High standards and high expectations for students Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community A love of children, a passionate commitment to education, and a desire to work with all types of learners Extraordinary communication and presentation skills A proficiency in the use of technology A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment Salary and Benefits: Parker is committed to attracting and retaining the highest quality faculty and staff through a substantial compensation plan, including competitive salary, TIAA retirement benefits and full medical/dental coverage.
