  • Summary: The School Age Care (SAC) Assistant Teacher supports the delivery of a safe, engaging, and enriching before- and after-school program. This role works alongside the Site Coordinator to create a fun and inclusive environment where children can build friendships, explore new interests, and develop important life skills. Assistant Teachers help facilitate a variety of hands-on learning experiences including art, STEM, group games, reading, homework support, and recreational activities.

Demonstrate and reinforce professionalism, appropriate language, take responsibility for actions, and mentor positive behaviors to all throughout the center. Support the implementation of a well-rounded program that includes creative arts, STEM activities, group games, reading, homework help, and enrichment opportunities such as clubs and community service projects. Assist in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children feel supported, respected, and encouraged to participate. Supervise and actively engage with children during indoor and outdoor play, structured activities, and transitions throughout the program. Help foster positive relationships and social development by encouraging teamwork, inclusion, and respectful interactions among children. Assist children in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills through daily interactions and guidance. Support the Site Coordinator in preparing and facilitating activities that promote learning, creativity, and hands-on involvement. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times, following licensing requirements and program policies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment, both indoors and outdoors. Help serve daily snacks and ensure proper documentation of meals as required. Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and communicate staffing needs to the Site Coordinator. Accurately complete required documentation, including attendance, incident reports, and communication logs. Communicate effectively with families by greeting them at arrival and departure and sharing highlights of their child’s day. Stay current on required trainings and professional development. Support overall program operations and assist with additional duties as assigned. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous experience in school age care preferred. Must be 16 years of age. General knowledge of children’s growth and development. Flexibility, reliability, and cooperative work habits. No substantiated history of child abuse of neglect. No history of a felony conviction on record within the past five years. No staff members name will appear on the sex offender’s registry. Physical Demands: Ability to see, speak, and hear. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent use of hands and arms. Occasional lifting of 20 to 40 lbs. Occasional need to climb, balance, kneel or crouch. Work Exposure: Work is primarily performed in an indoor classroom environment. Occasional outdoor exposure when weather permits. Noise level is moderate to loud due to equipment and children. Routine exposure to household sanitization and cleaning chemicals.
