Position Summary
The Special Education Teacher provides instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), state and federal laws, and district policies. The teacher creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and collaborates with staff, families, and related service providers to promote student growth and success. Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, implement, and adapt instructional lessons to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities. Deliver instruction aligned with state standards and the students’ IEP goals. Monitor, assess, and document student progress, updating IEPs and progress reports as required. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, aides, and administrators to support students’ educational and behavioral needs. Maintain classroom management strategies that promote a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment. Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, staff meetings, and professional development. Ensure compliance with all federal and state special education regulations, including IDEA and NYS Education Department requirements. Support the social-emotional development of students and implement behavioral interventions as outlined in IEPs or behavioral plans. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field. NYS Initial or Professional Teaching Certification in Special Education preferred. Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and best practices. Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills. Ability to differentiate instruction for students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. Compensation Bachelor’s Degree (Non-Certified Teacher): Starting salary $48,500 Bachelor’s Degree (Certified Teacher): Starting salary $50,500 Salary may increase based on experience, additional certifications, and advanced degrees.
Preferred Qualifications
NYS Special Education teaching certification. Experience teaching students with diverse disabilities. Experience using assistive technology or specialized instructional tools. Collaborative skills for working with parents, colleagues, and support staff. Working Conditions School/classroom environment in compliance with NYS Education Department regulations. May require supervising, or assisting students with physical or behavioral needs. Occasional after-school meetings, conferences, or school events.
