Job description

  • Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU) is seeking on-site adjunct faculty to teach in our Prison Education Program (PEP) in the Chesapeake region.
  • The areas of expertise include Math & English.
  • These are part-time positions teaching on-site courses for associate's and bachelor's degree programs.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree in the content area and demonstrated experience in teaching college-level coursework.
  • However, candidates with an M.S. or 18 graduate semester hours will also be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs. Use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System, and other related technologies as appropriate for the PEP program. Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grades, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period. Communicate with students during class and facility time. Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar. Comply with FERPA regulations. Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students.

Doctorate or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in the content area – Math or English Strong communication skills Teaching experience is preferred Experience with online learning management systems is a plus BUT not required for the PEP program as there is no internet access.
