Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard at the Plattsburgh YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential functions
Instruct participants according to YMCA Aquatics program standards using lesson guides, guided discovery teaching, effective class organization and positive relationship with participants. Set-up, breakdown and store equipment for each class. Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes. Enforce Aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly. Maintain positive relationships with class participants, parents, none class members and staff. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Qualifications
Must be 15 years of age or older. Current YMCA Swim Lessons certification or American Red Cross. Certification (WSI) desired. Excellent hospitality skills. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
