Job description

La Jolla Country Day School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered, and conceptually driven History Educator for a Long-Term Substitute assignment beginning in August 2026 through the end of January 2027.

This position includes teaching two sections of 7th grade and two sections of 8th grade United States history, serving as an advisor, and chaperoning the week-long 7th grade outdoor education trip to Catalina in November.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (or equivalent) preferred in history, education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching middle school history (Grades 7–8 or equivalent) preferred
  • Understanding of adolescent development and middle school pedagogy

  • Ability to create engaging, discussion-based, and student-centered history lessons
  • Experience with or willingness to integrate technology into instruction
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackbaud)

Compensation

This is a long-term substitute position from August 2026 through the end of January 2027. The biweekly salary offer to a successful candidate will depend on factors including experience, education, training, and relevant skills, and fall in the range of $2,500-$3,400.
