Description Position Overview Berkshire County Head Start (BCHS) is seeking a dedicated and flexible Flex Teacher to support high-quality early childhood education across our program. This role plays a key part in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children while supporting families as their child’s first and most important teachers. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, adaptable, and committed to fostering inclusive, engaging learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

Child Development & Learning Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities that promote cognitive, emotional, and physical growth Assist in creating engaging, hands-on learning environments across all developmental domains Encourage children’s exploration, discovery, and independence Support social-emotional development through positive guidance and interaction Classroom Support & Interaction Foster inclusive, respectful environments that value diversity Promote positive behavior and respectful peer interactions Assist teaching staff in delivering individualized learning experiences Health, Safety & Nutrition Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy classroom environment Support children’s self-care routines, including handwashing and hygiene Follow safety protocols, including authorized child release procedures Assist with food handling and nutrition education activities Program Support Assist with transportation duties (e.g., bus monitoring) as assigned Support family engagement practices and inclusive program policies Maintain awareness of children’s individual learning plans Professionalism Maintain confidentiality of child and family information Model organizational values and contribute to a positive team culture Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education High school diploma or equivalent (required) Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred) Experience Minimum of 2 years working with young children Experience in an early childhood setting preferred Head Start experience a plus Skills & Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Organized, flexible, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with children Basic knowledge of child development principles Commitment to confidentiality and ethical practices Preferred Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole strongly encouraged) Massachusetts EEC Teacher Certification
