FLSA Status: Exempt | Full-Time

Position Summary

The School Counselor implements a comprehensive, data-driven guidance program addressing the academic, social-emotional, and college/career development needs of students.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or Guidance and Counseling from an accredited institution required
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with School Counselor endorsement (NT) as required by the Michigan State Board of Education
  • Minimum of one (1) year of school counseling experience preferred; new graduates encouraged to apply
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Core responsibilities
  • Design and deliver a comprehensive school counseling curriculum addressing academic achievement, social-emotional development, and career/college readiness
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling on issues including academic planning, peer relationships, conflict resolution, and personal challenges
  • Serve as a leader, consultant, and coordinator for student support services — collaborating with teachers, administrators, social workers, and outside agencies
  • Coordinate crisis counseling, dropout prevention, and early intervention services; make referrals to community resources as appropriate
  • Assist students in developing Educational Development Plans (EDPs), course selections, and post-secondary planning
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and available support services
  • Participate in IEP/504 meetings and IEPT processes as appropriate

Physical requirements

Must be able to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for extended periods. Work environment includes elevated noise levels.
