Reading Specialist / Interventionist

Location: Riverside Academy East

FLSA Status: Exempt | Full-Time

Reports To: Academy Principal

Position Summary

The Reading Specialist provides targeted literacy intervention and instructional support for students with reading difficulties, while partnering with classroom teachers to strengthen reading instruction across the school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate; Reading Specialist endorsement (RX) strongly preferred
  • Valid elementary teaching certification to hold an interventionist role.
  • Candidates who do not yet hold a Michigan teaching certificate may qualify through enrollment in GEE's Career Advancement Program (CAP), which provides a supported pathway to Michigan certification. CAP eligibility is determined at the time of application.

  • Core responsibilities
  • Deliver intensive one-on-one and small-group literacy intervention based on individual student need
  • Develop and maintain individualized Reading Instruction Plans with ongoing progress monitoring
  • Administer reading assessments and use results to adjust instructional strategies
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers
  • Maintain accurate student progress records in compliance with school and state requirements
  • Communicate with parents regarding reading goals, progress, and strategies to support learning at home

Physical requirements

Must be able to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for extended periods. Work environment includes elevated noise levels.
