Duties and Responsibilities
Commitment: Demonstrate a strong alignment with the vision and mission of Head Start of York County and Community Progress Council, Inc.
Expertise
Apply a solid understanding of early childhood education principles, child development, and effective behavior management strategies.
Environment
Foster a clean, safe, and positive classroom atmosphere that promotes respect, active learning, and cultural responsiveness.
Collaboration
Partner with parents and teaching staff to design developmentally appropriate activities that encourage problem-solving, language growth, and social-emotional development.
Consistency
Maintain a structured daily schedule featuring engaging group experiences, music, outdoor play, and smooth transitions.
Preparation
- Organize classroom materials to support lesson plans and adapt learning centers to meet individual and group needs.
- Family
- Engagement: Conduct parent conferences and home visits to share progress, develop individualized education plans, and lead parent education activities that encourage active participation.
Assessment
Utilize approved tools to assess children’s development and collaborate with families and staff to address special needs.
Documentation
Accurately maintain lesson plans, observations, and educational records in compliance with program requirements.
Integration
- Incorporate health, nutrition, social services, and family involvement into classroom activities for a holistic approach to learning.

- Safety: Perform regular health checks and promptly report any signs of abuse or neglect.

Mentor and support assistant teachers in delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences while modeling professionalism, flexibility, and accountability.

Requirements
Education and Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child and Family Studies, or Elementary Education, plus at least one year of experience working with preschool children. An associate degree in these fields may be considered. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Arabic are desirable.
Communication
Strong verbal skills to effectively present information to groups and write clear reports and correspondence.
Technology
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment preferred.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and family information.
