Job description

Description Westchester Day School/ Westchester Summer Day is seeking a highly trained and responsible Armed Security Guard to ensure the safety and security of our school community. The ideal candidate will be proactive, vigilant, and capable of responding effectively to emergency situations while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. The Armed Security Guard will work closely with school administration, staff, and local law enforcement to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and visitors.

This is a part time role with variable hours as needed to support our full time guard staff. The hourly rate for this role is $30.00.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol and
  • Observe: Conduct regular patrols around the school grounds, parking lots, and nearby areas to monitor for suspicious activity or security risks.
  • Access
  • Control: Monitor and control access points, including gates, doors, and entrances, ensuring that only authorized personnel enter the premises.
  • Emergency
  • Response: Respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
  • Threat
  • Prevention: Identify and address potential threats to safety, reporting any suspicious activity or security breaches to appropriate authorities.
  • Monitoring
  • Systems: Operate and monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and other surveillance equipment to detect and deter criminal activity.

Collaboration

Work closely with school administration, law enforcement, and local emergency services to maintain a safe school environment.

Documentation

  • Maintain detailed reports on security incidents, safety concerns, and daily patrol activities, ensuring accurate documentation of all occurrences.
  • Visitor
  • Screening: Screen and verify the identity of visitors, staff, and students entering the school, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • Safety
  • Education: Assist in educating students and staff about safety practices, emergency evacuation plans, and how to respond in case of an emergency. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional security or law enforcement training is required.

Experience

  • Prior experience as an armed security officer, law enforcement, or military background is required.

Knowledge of security protocols, emergency procedures, and conflict resolution. Work is performed on-site at a school campus, which includes indoor and outdoor environments. Must be available to work during school hours, including some evenings, weekends, or holidays as required. Occasional overtime may be required in response to emergency situations.
