Job description

This employee administers respiratory therapy care to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment
  • Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders
  • Set up and operate devices including mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and/or compressors
  • Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature
  • Monitor patient response to therapy via vital sign and blood chemistry changes
  • Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimal results
  • Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction
  • Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently
  • Order repairs when needed
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees
  • Perform staff education at customer facilities
  • Perform tracheostomy tube changes

Qualifications

Licenses

• Active State Respiratory Care Practitioner license

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Previous related work experience
