Job description

Catholic Charities Disability Services & Ministries is looking for a compassionate nurse to work for our 7-week our summer Camp Happiness program for children ages 5-18 with developmental disabilities. Coordinate and provide health care for Disability Services, Camp Happiness.

Hourly pay rate

$27.24

June 8th - July 24th

Camp Nurse

  • Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
  • Review health history/examination forms for all campers.
  • Check the camp health log: to assure log is being completed correctly; to see specific campers for follow-up; make appropriate notations and review with Site Director and sign.
  • Assist with health emergencies as needed, to determine when immediate hospitalization is warranted.
  • Assess illness and injuries of campers and staff as necessary; report any health limitations or restrictions to appropriate camp personnel.
  • Monitor communicable diseases through assessment and development of appropriate precautions.
  • Review all completed Incident Reports informing parents/guardians of medical/physical problems or concerns which may need attention.
  • Ensure that site(s) have proper first aid materials/equipment and suggest any additional supplies.
  • Initiate medical education for any staff as needed.
  • When not providing medical care, actively engage as a team member supporting campers in all activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Work Environment

  • Be able to communicate with campers/staff and give instruction;
  • Walk at least 1 mile at one time;
  • Constant reading and comprehension for training materials, doctor’s orders, medical forms, schedules, assignments;
  • Frequent writing for documentation of medication administration, notations of medical treatments, incident reports and notes.
  • Buildings may not be air conditioned as well as working outside for hours at a time which provides for extreme temperatures both inside and out on a frequent basis;
  • Frequent higher noise levels with community activities bringing children together which can be very loud;
  • Occasional bending, climbing, reaching, navigating stairs throughout camp;
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/carry campers up to 90 lbs with assistance.
  • Must be able to push/pull wheelchair.
  • Finger dexterity to manage forms, bandaging, giving injections required on a frequent basis;
  • Frequent eye-hand coordination; color distinction for identifying different medications; discoloration of skin/fluids, visual inspection for assessing illness and injury;
  • Frequent use of telephone/cell phone.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing, current R.N. licensure in State of Ohio and current Basic & Cardiac Life Support Provider card with 1-2 years relevant work history.
  • Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in order to work with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat and reach above head.
  • Must be able to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to work with diverse client population, community organizations as well as staff at all levels.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess a strong initiative and be self-directed, making many decisions independently.
  • Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
