Job description

Purpose of the position

The Recreation Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities, including sports, fitness classes, and arts and crafts. All activities are developed and coordinated in collaboration with the Client Care Coordinator, Social Service Manager, and/or the Shelter Director.

Reports to: Shelter Director and/or the Client Care Coordinator

  • Specific responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Client Care Coordinator to plan and run activities and workshops for Residents.
  • Record and report program information to supervisor.
  • Create monthly and activity calendars.
  • Complete observation and incident reports.
  • Prepare and lead adult workshops and independent living sessions.
  • Perform other assigned tasks

Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent preferred. Experience with adults, children, youth, and at-risk families required. Crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and CPR training needed.

Scope of responsibility

The employee shall be responsible for the planning and execution of activities that are appropriate for the participants’ age group. Additionally, the employee will ensure the safety and welfare of all program participants throughout scheduled activities. This position frequently requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
