- DESCRIPTION: The Epilepsy Foundation of NJ (EFNJ) holds an annual summer, overnight camping program- Camp NOVA! Camp NOVAs primary purpose is to provide a social and interactive camping experience for teens, young adults, and older adults (ages 19-60) with epilepsy and other developmental disabilities. It also provides respite to family members and caregivers. Planned program activities will include a variety of physical and recreational opportunities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, swimming, boating, fishing, and evening outings. The camp site is the Linwood MacDonald YMCA in Sandyston, NJ located in Sussex County. Camp NOVA will be held from July 18-July 25th, 2026. The Family Resource Network agency is looking to employ counselors to live and work at the camp for this unique and rewarding experience. The salary varies from $600 - $600 (3:1 care ratio-$600, 2:1 care ratio-$600). EFNJ is seeking mature, motivated, individuals who will be responsible for the campers. The counselors will be responsible for campers and participation in camp activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise and provide proper care to campers with daily living and other fun, engaging camp activities Responsible for assigned campers 24/7 throughout the week Ensures that all work is carried out in a manner that is both respectful and empowering to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Responsible for maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals that are assigned to you Encourages and models appropriate social behaviors and interactions Demonstrates a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor Follows mandatory reporting procedures according to FRN and state protocols Other duties as assigned by Camp Director Qualifications PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to engage in physical activities including: Walking long distances Lifting, moving, or holding weight of 1040 pounds may be required Respond immediately and appropriately to ensure consumer health and safety needs Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirement REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED Meet agency and state requirements (CPR, First Aid, NJ Sex Offender Registry etc.) Experience with assisting and serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred Must submit to a criminal history review/ fingerprinting.
