Alumni volunteer program: Program information

The Alumni Volunteer program is a 10-month program, covering one school year designed for recent college graduates and young alumni (age 25 and under) of Walsh Jesuit High School. The four pillars on which this program relies are community, spiritual development/discernment, professional development and service to the school. Through these four areas, we hope to provide a mutually beneficial experience for the school and the volunteer. This is an opportunity for our Alumni Volunteers to serve in conjunction with our Jesuit mission, as an asset to our school community, living as an example of service to our current students.

Application Individuals interested in participating in the program must apply the year prior to their intended involvement. To apply, applicants must submit a current resume and cover letter, a college transcript, and a letter of recommendation in the following application.

Applications are reviewed on the basis of academic excellence, school and community involvement, evidence of commitment to the Jesuit mission and teaching experience/aptitude. Up to two volunteers are accepted per year.

Qualifications

  • Individuals accepted into the program make a commitment of total involvement in the Walsh Jesuit High School community for a period of one school year. Basic requirements of an Alumni Volunteer:
  • Graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and a recent college graduate
  • Willingness to make a full one year commitment to Walsh Jesuit High School
  • Openness to both personal and spiritual growth and development
  • Desire and ability to live, work and develop along with other volunteers
  • Flexible, passionate, self-starter

All Alumni Volunteers are expected to

  • Curricular
  • participate in the new faculty orientation session in August
  • tutor and supervise in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and other learning service programs as assigned
  • attend faculty/staff and departmental meetings and gatherings Co-curricular
  • staff at least one retreat
  • prefect during the school day
  • chaperone events (dances, service trips, etc.)
  • assist with moderating Labre, Sophomore Service and Gonzaga
  • perform other duties as assigned (i.e. Companions Program, Admissions Department, Library, etc.). Community
  • live in community with other Alumni Volunteers
  • engage in the spiritual growth program for Alumni Volunteers Compensation Participants receive a housing stipend*, and a personal stipend.

*Housing stipend to be considered on a case by case basis, with the idea of alumni volunteers creating community amongst the group at the heart of this decision making process
