Position Summary

The Seasonal Assistant High School Sailing Coach supports the Head Sailing Coach in delivering a dynamic and well-organized spring after school sailing program. This role plays an important part in creating a safe, engaging, and competitive environment for high school sailors. The Assistant Coach works closely with students to develop sailing skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence while representing the values and standards of Larchmont Yacht Club. Key Responsibilities Coaching and Instruction Support daily on water and classroom instruction for high school sailors Assist with practice planning, session setup, and skill progression Deliver clear, constructive feedback to sailors during and after practices Help foster a positive, inclusive team culture focused on growth and performance Safety and Supervision Maintain a safe learning environment on land and on the water Supervise sailors during practices and ensure adherence to safety protocols Assist with proper use, care, and storage of sailboats and powerboats Equipment and Program Support Oversee rigging and de rigging of Z420 and FJ sailboats Assist with launching, docking, and equipment checks Support race preparation, drills, and practice logistics as assigned QualificationsQualifications Education and Experience High school and or college sailing experience preferred Prior coaching experience with youth or high school athletes required Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teenagers Certifications and Requirements US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification or higher Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR with AED certification US Sailing SafeSport certification New York State Powerboat License or NASBLA equivalent US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certificate Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to lift 50 pounds or more Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions Availability for weekday afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekend days Compensation and Schedule Part time, seasonal position Hourly pay range of $25 to $30 based on experience and certifications Spring season runs from early February through May
