- Reports To: Camp Director About Larchmont Yacht Club and Camp Seagull Larchmont Yacht Club is one of the nation’s most respected private clubs, located on a scenic waterfront just north of New York City. The Club offers outstanding sailing, recreational, and social programs for its members throughout the year. Camp Seagull is LYC’s signature summer day camp program. Our counselors are central to delivering a safe, engaging, and memorable camp environment for every camper.
Position Summary
- The Junior Camp Counselor plays an important support role at Camp Seagull. Working under the guidance of the Camp Director, Head Counselors, and Activity Specialists, Junior Counselors help lead daily programs, supervise campers, and foster a positive and inclusive camp experience. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, want to develop leadership skills, and are excited to be part of a high-quality summer camp program. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Head Counselors and Activity Specialists with planning and facilitating daily camp activities
- Supervise and actively engage campers during structured programs and free-play periods
- Promote teamwork, positive behavior, and age-appropriate independence among campers
- Support camper safety and well-being at all times
- Help with the setup, cleanup, and general care of camp spaces and equipment
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and inclusivity
- Communicate clearly and courteously with campers, parents or guardians, and fellow staff members
- Participate in required staff training sessions, meetings, and orientations
- Attend pre-camp orientation and parent and counselor meet-and-greet events as scheduledQualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Strong interest in working with children in a recreational or camp setting
- Positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Clear communication skills and a willingness to take direction
- Dependable and able to commit to the full summer schedule and program requirements Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a camp, youth program, or similar environment
- Basic knowledge of safety practices or first aid
- Participation in leadership, mentoring, or volunteer programs Schedule and Employment Details

- Monday through Friday, typically 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
- Part-time and full-time opportunities may be available based on program needs
