About the Role

• The School Age Assistant Counselor plays a crucial role in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children during after-school programs.
• This position involves working closely with children aged 5 to 12, facilitating activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development.
• The Assistant Counselor will collaborate with lead counselors to implement educational and recreational programs that cater to the diverse needs of the children.
• Additionally, this role requires effective communication with parents and guardians to ensure a holistic approach to each child's well-being.
• Ultimately, the goal is to foster a positive atmosphere where children can thrive, learn, and build lasting friendships.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children in a group setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Experience in educational or recreational programming.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing daily activities and programs for children.
• Supervise children during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Provide support and guidance to children in developing social skills and resolving conflicts.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child's progress and any concerns.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment, ensuring all materials and equipment are safe and accessible.

• The required skills for this position include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
• Organizational skills are vital for planning activities and maintaining a structured environment.
• Problem-solving skills will be utilized daily to address any conflicts or challenges that arise among children.
• Additionally, a passion for working with youth and a commitment to their development will enhance the effectiveness of the Assistant Counselor.
• Preferred skills, such as knowledge of child development principles, will further enrich the programs offered and contribute to a more impactful experience for the children.
