Job description
Description The Summer Camp Health Director is a seasonal position (June 25–August 21, 2026) responsible for supporting the overall health and safety of campers and staff during the summer camp program, in alignment with New York State and Westchester County Department of Health regulations, as well as YWCA policies. This role oversees the implementation of the camp’s health plan, provides basic first aid and care for minor illness or injury, maintains health documentation for campers, and ensures first aid supplies and protocols are in place across camp activities. The Health Director also serves as a resource to staff on health-related matters and supports a safe camp environment throughout the summer season.
Key Responsibilities
General Initiate health education and safety practices Establish and maintain contact with local hospital facilities Maintain emergency procedures for the summer camp programs Instruct staff in general health and safety and first aid procedures during pre-camp training Prepare and maintain first aid kits for on-site and off-site activities Give first aid when needed Give nursing care in cases of illness and accident Camper Health Check incoming campers and collect, review and keep health certificates for all campers Record all treatment and other health information Notify staff members of health precautions of special campers when necessary Collect medications of campers before camp starts Supervise medication storage Oversee self-administration of medicine by campers when appropriate Complete necessary reports such as daily treatment log, health department reports, YWCA reports and other required reports Staff Health Record and report staff injuries and illness as required by the health department and YWCA The Summer Camp Health Director will also participate in pre-camp staff meetings and will be available at agreed upon dates/times to meet with parents before the camp season starts.

Qualifications
NYS Licensed EMT, LPN, or RN At least three to five years of nursing experience. Pediatric experience is a plus. Must have valid NYS Driver's License. Licensing and/or Certifications: First Aid CPR

Must be committed to the safety and wellbeing of campers Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively Ability to manage health forms and paperwork Commitment to the mission of the YWCA.
Work Schedule
- We try to create shifts to fit the needs of the nursing staff, in addition to the overall needs of the camp.
- Each shift schedule will be a variation of the following: 8-10-hour shift which may be broken up during the day
Compensation
This is a seasonal stipend-based position paid through payroll. The total summer stipend for this role is $8,000.16, covering the full Camp Funkist season (June 25–August 21, 2026), including required training days and scheduled camp days. Stipends are distributed semi-monthly in accordance with the YWCA payroll schedule and are prorated across all paid days in the season. This stipend reflects compensation for the full seasonal assignment and is not calculated on an hourly basis.
