The Extended School Year (ESY) Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides weekly activities centered on pragmatic language with the addition of receptive and expressive language components for K-11 students. The Speech-language Pathologist develops activities that are accessible to students based on their IEP accommodations. Students receive instruction on social communication skills such as nonverbal communication, perspective-taking, using a social filter, and observing the social landscape. The Speech-Language Pathologist then facilitates a small classroom group activity (8-11 students) to reinforce and help students apply learned skills in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Essential duties
- Develops and implements developmentally appropriate activities for students in grades K-11.
- Collaborates with special education teacher to ensure compliance with students’ IEP goals, objectives, and accommodations.
- Develops and implements classroom behavior management appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness.
- Writes progress reports for students with SLP services.
- Fosters positive self-esteem and social growth of students through social skills activities.
- Creates and maintains a respectful classroom culture that fosters safe and productive learning.
- Supports daily electives blocks.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Master of Arts or Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (ASHA Certification).
Experience
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a school setting.
Training
• First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.
