  • Range: $28.97 - $30.10 HourlyJob Description Be a part of an energetic team implementing youth ministry and youth sacramental preparation for teens in Grades 7th-12th Grade! Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, serve as the Pastoral Assistant for Youth Ministry at Holy Disciples Catholic Church in Puyallup, Washington. Within the next two to three years, join a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers working together to support and strengthen youth ministry for members of not just Holy Disciples, but also the other three Catholic churches we are in partnership with. This position implements the parish’s commitment to youth ministry in a comprehensive manner. This includes catechesis, evangelization, social action, community building, spirituality, liturgy, guidance, empowerment, and advocacy. It involves oversight of day-to-day operations of youth ministry, and ensures a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for all Middle and High School participants.
  • The role entails the following responsibilities: Collaborates with the Pastor, staff, and consultative bodies in implementing the mission and vision of the parish family. Is a member of the Pastoral Team in all four parishes, attends Pastoral Team Meetings, and partners with other team members in the implementation of the parish vision. Develops and administers the program budgets as delegated by the Pastoral Administrative Assistant. Maintains a level of knowledge, skills, and familiarity with Catholic Church teachings required for these ministries through regular updating, reading appropriate materials and participation at workshops and conventions. Participates in local, regional and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.

QualificationsEssential Duties Assures the development of programs and activities in the parish family for senior high and middle school youth that fosters spiritual formation. This should include but not be limited to weekly youth nights, retreats, religious education, socials, recreation, athletic activities, outreach programs, youth-oriented liturgies, and community service opportunities. Creates opportunities for youth to discover their God-given gifts and talents; prepares and empowers them for service as members of the Body of Christ, through service projects and outreach efforts, such as the Agape Project, and other missionary discipleship experiences. Recruits, trains, and foster adult volunteers to assist with all Youth Ministry Programs and fosters leadership among the youth through formation. Assists in the formation of a comprehensive vision for Parish Family 39 over the next few years. Other duties as assigned. Essential qualifications: Primary: Energetic individual with creativity and flexibility to provide youth ministry and youth sacramental preparation. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by engaging young people in all aspects of parish life. Ability and desire to use one's God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church and in collaboration with lay and ordained ministers. Knowledge of an ability to work with the challenges faced by young people, especially at-risk youth. Ability to apply the Catholic faith to youth and families. Effective administrative and organized capabilities. Ability to work evening and weekend hours.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Catholic Religious Studies, Pastoral Studies or related field or the equivalent in related training or experience. Certification in Lay Ecclesial Ministry preferred.

Experience

  • At least two years’ experience in pastoral ministry. Demonstrated experience in professional youth work.
  • Work environment/physical demands: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Work various schedules including afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Ability to communicate with parish staff, volunteers, youth, and families. Noise level is moderately loud. Standing for long periods of time. Walking, kneeling and/or crouching to demonstrate proper form. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion. Ability to navigate emergency situations.
