Overview

Teacher Assistants work closely with the Teacher to create a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for a specific group of children. Teacher Assistants support the Teacher in all classroom responsibilities, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in early childhood education.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Teacher to develop and implement engaging lesson plans that inspire curiosity and support each child’s development.
  • Assist with learning opportunities that build self-esteem, confidence, and essential social skills.
  • Actively engage with children through play-based learning to encourage exploration, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences.
  • Support developmentally appropriate expectations that foster social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Provide supporting observations and assessments of children’s progress using the approved assessment tools.
  • Assist with open, professional, and positive communication with all families.
  • Work productively with colleagues and Administration by participating in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture built on mutual respect and collaboration.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (or its equivalent)
  • Credits toward Associates or BA degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the field of Early Childhood Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
