Position Summary

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals in and around Kresge Pool. Key duties include monitoring pool conditions and weather, enforcing safety protocols, administering first aid and CPR, and performing water rescues as needed. Lifeguards are also expected to oversee patron sign-in, maintain inventory of medical supplies, and complete opening and closing procedures. This position includes supervision of open swim sessions, physical education classes, and varsity swim practices. Work shifts vary throughout the week, including weekdays and weekends, based on facility usage by internal and external groups. Job Requirements: Applicants must hold current, valid CPR and Lifeguard certifications. CPR certifications must be valid under New York State guidelines (valid for one year from the date of issue) and must remain current through at least the first semester of employment. Expired certifications will not be accepted. All hired lifeguards are required to participate in mandatory In-Service Training each semester, during which they must demonstrate proficiency in essential skills.
