Job description
Overview THIS IS A TEMPORARY, SUMMER-ONLY POSITION. As a member of the Camp Joy Staff and under the supervision of the Assistant Supervisor, the Camp Joy Counselor is responsible to assist the Assistant Supervisor in all aspects of the Camp Joy program.
Responsibilities
Responsible for one or more children for an entire day. This involves feeding, changing clothes (diapers) if needed, moving campers from activity to activity, meeting the child at the bus, and returning the child to the proper bus at the end of the day. Responsible for helping other counselors or campers in the group who may need assistance throughout the day. Participate in all swimming activities. Assist in cleanup at the end of the day. Must assist as requested in record keeping and report writing. Attend all meetings and trainings as required. All other duties assigned by the Assistant Supervisor or designee. Act as a role model to campers and counselors-in-training, modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors. Perform related work as required. Minimum Entrance Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have two (2) years of experience working with children, with and without disabilities. Must have knowledge of group activity organization and be capable of working with children with and without disabilities. Must have a basic understanding of disabilities. Must have current First Aid & CPR Certificates. Ability to participate in a variety of activities, including swimming. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. This position has received a waiver from the Boston Residency Commission establishing a temporary moratorium on the City of Boston Residency Ordinance for a period of three years, ending January 4, 2027.
